Practicum in Teaching

This course offers students the valuable opportunity to gain firsthand experience in local PreK-8 classrooms under the direct supervision of a mentor teacher. Prospective teacher candidates gain greater insight into the commitment, purpose, and responsibility associated with professional teaching practice.  Particular focus is placed on productive teaching practices and the habits of successful teachers.  During the practicum experience, students will observe instructional methods, classroom management, and various teaching strategies.  Students will engage in one-on-one and small group work with students, implement classroom lessons, develop both professional and student portfolios, and explore post-secondary opportunities for teacher education and educator employment.  Students can earn dual credit through Missouri State University and has the opportunity to obtain their Missouri Substitute Certification.  This year long course meets for 2 periods each day.
